The Epicenter of Sea-Run Trout
Housed in a meticulously renovated historic farmhouse on the banks of the Fossálar river, Battle Hill Lodge takes its name from "Orustuhóll" (Battle Hill). It marks the historic 10th-century conflict site where an Icelandic Viking chieftain fought off attackers. Today, the lodge stands as a peaceful sanctuary for serious fly anglers seeking the most robust sea-run brown trout fishery on earth.
Historically managed by local farming clubs and closed off to outside tourism for decades, the surrounding rivers are now operated exclusively by Fish Partner. We enforce strict catch-and-release rules and low rod-limits to maintain a world-class density of massive migratory trout, many of which top 15 to 20 pounds.
The Three Legendary Rivers
Anglers at Battle Hill enjoy private access to three distinct beats, providing highly varied scenery and water types:
Vatnamót
The dynamic "junction of waters" where Geirlandsá and Fossálar meet the glacial Skaftá river. A volcanic sand-bottomed delta teeming with migrating sea trout.
Fossálar
A breathtaking, gin-clear river characterized by natural volcanic pools, waterfalls, and steep cliffs. A UNESCO Natural Heritage list candidate.
Geirlandsá
A major spawning tributary for the Skaftá system. Intimate, secluded pools surrounded by green valleys, perfect for technical single-hand swing work.
The Lodge Experience
Designed to feel like a premium Scandi-luxe home rather than a commercial lodge, Battle Hill accommodates up to 10 guests in comfortable double or twin rooms. The interior blends warm volcanic timber styling with modern comforts like heated slate flooring, premium linens, fast Wi-Fi, and a spacious drying room for waders.
All-inclusive programs include three daily meals prepared by our gourmet culinary crew. Wake up to a full hot breakfast, enjoy a hot riverside lunch delivered to your beat, and conclude your evening with premium Icelandic lamb or Arctic char dishes, paired with fine wines in our historic dining room.
